Privacy at a glance
- We don't continuously track your location in the background. Made It only ever sees your location while you've actively chosen to be visible in a Space.
- We don't keep a location history. When you stop being visible, your location data isn't kept as a travel log.
- Location is opt-in per Space, per day. You decide when you're visible and when you're not.
- You control location permission through your device settings, on top of the in-app control.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
- Only people in the same Space as you can see the information you choose to share there.
What We Collect
We collect the information Made It needs to create your account and make the features you choose to use work. Here's exactly what that is:
Account & profile information
When you sign in with Google, we read your name, a Google account identifier, and (if you have one set) your Google profile photo from the sign-in response. We use this to create your Made It account and identify you to the people in your Spaces. The sign-in response may also include your email address, but our app never reads, stores, or transmits it - it passes through unused.
Location information
When you join a Space and choose to be visible for the day, we collect your device's location so other active members of that Space can see roughly where you are. This only happens while you're actively visible - not before you join, and not after you leave. Presence data that goes stale (no update for a few minutes) automatically stops being shown to others.
Space & message content
We store the Spaces you create or join, who's a member, and the chat messages sent within them, so the group chat feature works and members can see conversation history for a Space they belong to.
Technical & diagnostic information
Like most online services, our servers process basic technical information needed to operate securely - such as IP address, app version, and request/error logs - for things like keeping the service running, diagnosing problems, and preventing abuse.
The basic rule is simple: if Made It doesn't reasonably need it for a feature you're using, we don't want it.
Android Permissions We Request
Made It only asks for the device permissions it actually needs. Here's the complete list:
Fine & coarse location. Requested only when you join a Space and choose to be visible. Used to show your position to other active members of that Space. Not requested in the background, and not used for anything else.
Network access. Required for the app to talk to our servers at all - signing in, loading your Spaces, sending messages, and syncing presence.
We do not request background location, camera, microphone, contacts, SMS, call, or storage permissions.
How We Use Your Information
We use information to sign you in, run Made It, provide the Space, presence, and chat features you ask for, keep the service secure, diagnose problems, prevent misuse, and improve the app. In other words, we use it to make Made It work - not to build a profile of you for anything else.
When and With Whom Information Is Shared
Your shared location, name, and profile photo are visible to the other members of a Space while you're actively visible in it - that's the point of the feature, and it's limited to people you've chosen to share a Space with.
We also rely on infrastructure providers to run the app, including Google (Sign-In and Maps) and our hosting/database provider (Microsoft Azure). These providers process data on our behalf to make Made It work; they don't get to use it for their own purposes.
We may disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Purple Robot, our users, or others.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it to serve third-party advertising.
How Long We Keep Information
Live presence (your shared location) is only shown to others while you're actively visible, and expires automatically within a few minutes if your device stops sending updates - it isn't retained as a location history.
Chat messages and Space membership are kept for as long as the Space exists, so members can see conversation history. Account information is kept until you delete your account. We may keep limited information longer where needed for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.
Your Rights and Choices
- You control location permission through your device settings, on top of choosing when to be visible in-app.
- Leaving a Space or ending your day stops your location from being shared with that Space.
- You can delete a Space you own, which removes its membership and message data.
- You can delete your account at any time from Account Management in the app, which removes your profile, memberships, and messages.
- You can request access to or correction of your personal information by contacting us (below).
- You can revoke Made It's access to your Google account at any time from your Google account settings.
Keeping Your Information Safe
Traffic between the Made It app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and our database platform provides encryption at rest. We use authentication and access controls to limit who can reach your data.
No app, phone, network, or online service can promise perfect security. As Made It grows, its security practices will keep evolving with it.
Children and Families
Made It is intended to support families and other trusted groups, but Made It accounts are meant for people aged 13 and older. Made It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll take appropriate action.
If This Policy Changes
Made It is still growing, so this policy may change as the app, its technology, or its features change. Material changes will appear in an updated version of this policy, dated above, and where appropriate we'll bring them to your attention in the app.
